Seasons Greetings Music Lovers Hope you all had a good Christmas and New year, and that the weather hasn't affected you too badly. Looks like there is a thaw in the offing which can only be a good thing. I am sorry that the first FAB Nights email of the year had to start with a postponed gig - but don't worry - there is plenty to enjoy to come. Apologies if you were one of the few people who had booked tickets for Keith James and Rik Foot's John Martyn evening on Friday, but the gig will still happen - just a bit later in the year.If you had pre-booked you can get a full refund from the box office or keep your tickets which will be valid for the re-arranged date.

So this is the line up for the next two months and more to come shortly.

For FAB Nights regulars The Conservatoire Folk Ensemble became something of a regular fixture and we happily booked them for the last 5 years. Director and legendary fiddle virtuoso Joe Broughton wanted to bring something different to us this year by way of his new band - The UFQ (see above - keep up!). Launched in June 2009, they spent their first 3 months together playing in the UK, Belgium and Spain, headlining major festivals and winning the Spanish International Folk competition in Plasencia on their 4th gig! Led by the genius of Joe Broughton the UFQ is a wonderful fusion - a heady mix from traditional tunes of of England and Spain to the vibrant fusion rhythms of the Birmingham scene. Members of the band, Joe Broughton (guitar, fiddle, mandolin) Tom Chapman, whizz kid percussionist with the Folk Ensemble,(cajon and percussion) Frank Moon (oud, guitar and bass) and Paloma Trigas (fiddle) have played with The Chieftains, The Albion Band, Feast of Fiddles, Carlos Nunez, The Destroyers, The Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, The Old Dance School, Chris While and Bellowhead, amongst others. Virtuosic, not just in feel and technical ability but in musical concept as well, The Urban Folk Quartet is a coming together of four of the most inspired and experienced young people working in world music today. www.myspace.com/the urban folk quartet *You may have noticed that they are playing The Stables in the same week. Usually we try to avoid such juxtapositions, but occasionally constellations align in interesting ways. If you live locally to Bedford - you can come and hear superb live music - and save on petrol!
